What is beauty?
Wow! Such a simple question can bring hours and hours of discussion because the concept of beauty can't be narrowed to the definition found in the dictionary.
So, I would like to ask you... what do you think? are you beautiful?
There's an old proverb that says: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", meaning that beauty is subjective, for what someone finds attractive or pretty may not appeal to others. But nowadays the concept of beauty has been manipulated in such a way creating standards that people have to follow in order to be considered beautiful. If you are not within those standards, then you will feel miserable and will do whatever it takes to get closer to them.
As I said before, we could spend a bunch of time trying to find what the truly standards of beauty apply to most of the people. That doesn't make sense. What if we try to find out our own beauty standards, or even better, what if you stop for a while and try to find YOUR very own ones. What do you think makes you gorgeous? and here is the best part, because beauty is not a physical condition or just the appearance. Do you know you can look radiant by the bright in your eyes, a friendly smile, a positive attitude? You don't need to be like any model or artist from a fashion magazine, you just have to be you and believe in you. You need to be in love with who you are and to be satisfied with yourself.
Think about fashion, art, music, we all have different tastes and that's why life is so interesting. You don't have to be tormented with the idea that you need to meet a certain color, size or shape to be happy. Just follow your heart and be free. Go by your own rules and don't listen to those who pretend to push you in a different direction, away from who you are. For example, Asia is passing through a very scary and stressing time, where young men and women feel that they need to do whatever it takes to meet the beauty and fashion standards set by the popular actors, singers and models. Nowadays South Korea has become Asia's hottest fashion city, putting a lot of pressure to the young generations to be those who they were not born to be, leading to frustration, bullying and in some cases, suicide. You don't want to be there, and I am not talking about being in Seoul, but in that situation.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Make sure the eyes that admire you are yours and to that extent, the approval of who you are or how beautiful you look, will always make your heart feel warm.
So the answer to my initial question is good news… you are beautiful!
